Trust the vision correction veterans
Finding the right laser vision correction surgeon is a big decision. It's important to take a close look at each surgeon's combination of education, experience and knowledge of technological advancements. At Truhlsen Eye Institute, you'll receive personalized care from expert providers who perform thousands of refractive surgeries every year.
In addition to bladeless Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) and a long list of other vision correction procedures, we now offer the latest and most advanced form of LASIK, called topography-guided LASIK. This is a more personalized form of the surgery. Topography-guided LASIK treats both the shape of your eye and the surface texture of your cornea to enhance the sharpness and clarity of your vision. Fewer than 14% of eye surgeries nationwide are performed using this cutting-edge technique because many surgeons don't have the training and expertise required. Our ophthalmologists have been performing this type of LASIK surgery since it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2016.
With the direction of your surgeon, you can choose the vision correction option that fits your specific needs and lifestyle. This includes:
- LASIK
- Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE)
- Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
- Contoura® Vision
- Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
- Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
- Refractive cataract surgery
- Adjustable cataract surgery
We can free you from contact lenses and glasses. Let us correct your vision to 20/20 or better.

What to expect
During your first visit, our highly skilled team will take a variety of measurements and tests to help our world-class surgeons determine which type of vision correction is best for you.
The tests include:
- Corneal topography, a test that maps the surface and structure of your eyes
- Corneal tomography, a test that looks at the shape of your eye; including the curvature, shape and dimensions of various eye structures
- Wavefront aberrometry, a test that measures how light waves pass through your eye to identify vision errors
- And of course, all the other typical eye tests you're used to receiving when visiting the eye doctor
Even if you've been told you have severe nearsightedness, severe farsightedness and/or astigmatism, we most likely have a vision correction solution for you.
Why you should choose us for LASIK surgery:
Fellowship trained surgeons
Our board certified ophthalmologists are fellowship trained meaning they are highly trained in cornea and refractive surgery and have performed numerous safe and successful surgeries.
Latest innovative technologies
We use the latest bladeless LASIK technology and a device called the Topolyzer to take several topographical images of your eye to ensure safe, personalized and predictable procedures with excellent results. Fewer than 10% of eye surgeries nationwide use this technique, and Nebraska Medicine is one of them.
We are actively involved in research and clinical trials
We have a dedicated center of excellence for clinical research that enables the department to bring scientific breakthroughs to patients in clinical studies. Our research teams have expertise in conducting clinical trials that lead to novel therapies for a variety of eye diseases.
