Your DNA is unique and may provide insight into your risk for certain health conditions. Nebraska Medicine has created the Genetic Insights Project, a large-scale community health research study. This research study will examine what your DNA can tell you about your future health. Our broader goal is to provide more personalized health care to patients and support new research for our community.

The Genetic Insights Project aims to enroll 100,000 people in Nebraska and western Iowa for genetic screening. Health insurance is not required and there is no cost to you to participate. You and your health care provider will receive confidential results about your genetic risk for certain cancers and heart disease. Your sample will also contribute to a secure genetic database.

This genetic database may help researchers learn:

  • About the causes of certain diseases
  • How to treat them more effectively
  • How to raise the standard of health care for all

We’ve partnered with Helix, a leading population genomics company that sequences your DNA to help screen for genetic risks.

Helix also offers participants the opportunity to learn about your regional ancestry and certain genetic traits, like caffeine sensitivity.
