Millions of Americans live with low vision

If you, or someone you love, is living with low vision, every day tasks such as reading, shopping and recognizing faces may be difficult.

At the Weigel Williamson Center for Visual Rehabilitation, we are dedicated to helping people with low vision keep their independence, and maintain quality of life.

Through low vision rehabilitation, we can help you read, write checks, prepare meals and safely take medications with confidence. Using the latest advances in technology and training, our skilled physicians and therapists will develop a personalized program designed to help you maximize the use of your remaining vision.

Some of the most common causes of low vision include:

  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration
  • Stroke or brain injury

What to expect

Your first visit will be two and a half hours long. It will include:

  • An interview
  • Vision testing
  • A low vision exam

Together, we'll identify your visual goals, and a doctor will determine which devices and training activities will help you meet those goals.

After your initial visit, you will be scheduled for your training sessions. Each training session will be one-to-two hours long. An occupational therapist will teach you skills to help you maximize the use of your remaining vision.

Most sessions will be held at the Low Vision Center, but one or two sessions may be held in your home. Medicare and most insurances cover our services, but devices typically aren't covered. Please contact your insurance provider to get the full details.
