Late life is a time of transitions, with increased vulnerability to losses and illnesses that can lead to problems in memory and other cognitive abilities, emotion, and behavior. Our geriatric psychiatry experts have specialized training in the special physical, emotional and social needs of patients aged 65 and older. We provide a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment of older adults to help them live as independently as possible.
Why Nebraska Medicine for Geriatric Psychiatric Care?
Evidence-Based Care
Our compassionate clinicians use evidence-based approaches to provide patients with the best treatment for mental health problems. We provide a full spectrum of therapeutic services that include short and long-term outpatient individual psychotherapies, pharmacotherapy and access to the latest research and clinical trials.
Expert Care for Our Community
We provide consultation services for mental health care to Omaha area assisted and long-term care facilities. We also have a telepsychiatry consultation service that enables patients in nursing homes and long-term care facilities across rural Nebraska to be evaluated and treated for mental health problems by our experienced geriatric psychiatrists. This clinical service, which focuses on dementia in long term care, is especially targeted toward the development of non-pharmacologic interventions for residents, but it also recognizes the prudent use of medications.
Research and Clinical Trials
Our specialists are active in research and clinical trials to find new and better medications for mood disorders and dementia, gambling disorders and management of dementia related behavioral problems in long-term care. As a result, you will have access to the most current and advanced treatments regimens before they become widely available to the general public. Nebraska Medicine is Ranked Among the Nation’s Best
Each year, U.S. News and World Report surveys roughly 5,000 hospitals in America to come up with the year’s list of Best Hospitals. Just three percent of the hospitals analyzed for Best Hospitals earn national ranking in even one specialty. We have been recognized as a high-performing hospital in geriatrics in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals ranking.
