A patient care coordinator will work with you to schedule an appointment with a physician or health care provider(s) with expertise in your cancer type.
While we do our best to schedule your second opinion appointment as quickly as possible, the timeline depends on several factors. Before scheduling your appointment, we will need your medical records.
What records will I need to provide?
The patient care coordinator will let you know what items are needed based on your circumstances. They will assist you in gathering any external records needed before your first appointment. We generally need your medical records, including radiology reports, medication lists, imaging test scans, pathology slides and reports.
A review of pathology slides (also called a biopsy) by a Nebraska Medicine pathologist is necessary in some instances to confirm the original diagnosis. A charge associated with this review will be submitted to your insurance company. Any amount not covered by your insurance will be your responsibility. Contact your insurer for information about your coverage.
Are second opinions covered by insurance?
