What is Contoura® laser vision correction?
Contoura® Vision is a type of customized laser vision correction. Standard laser vision correction simply treats your prescription, like far-sightedness, near-sightedness, and astigmatism. Contoura® treats not only the prescription but also considers the underlying shape of your cornea. The surface of the eye is not naturally perfectly smooth and is unique to you, much like your fingerprint.
Combining your prescription with the mapping of the surface of your eye, your surgeon will apply this laser treatment to smooth the surface of your eye, in many cases achieving better than glasses or contact lens vision. Contoura® can be performed with either Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) or Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK).
What to expect
During your first visit, we will do a free screening to determine if you are a candidate for laser vision correction and which type. If LASIK or PRK are being considered, we will also inform you whether Contoura® is right for you. During the second measurements visit, we will complete the imaging for Contoura®, where 20,000 spots on each eye are measured and will be used during your treatment to optimize your vision.
Laser vision correction itself only takes a few minutes to complete, but you will be in the laser suite for about 20 minutes for the entire procedure. We usually request that our patients take one or two days off work following the procedure.
