Have you noticed that as you age, you have begun to look tired, old, sad or angry even though you do not actually feel this way? Or, you may have excessive skin on your eyelids that is interfering with your vision or contributing to unwanted tearing.
Blepharoplasty, or more commonly known as eyelid surgery, can help with cosmetic or medical concerns due to saggy skin on the upper eyelids, or bagginess or puffiness under the eyelids.
What to expect
At your first visit, you will consult with the surgeon of your choice to discuss your concerns and goals with eyelid surgery. You will receive answers to your questions about what is involved with the surgery, what recovery is like, realistic expectations of outcome, payment options and more. You'll leave the consultation fully informed to make the best decision for you.
Upper eyelid surgery is usually an outpatient procedure that takes about an hour. You will be given a numbing and relaxing medication before excess skin is removed. Lower eyelid surgery is performed by making a small incision underneath the eyelashes or along the inside of the eyelid. Excess fat may be smoothed or removed or tightened by making a small incision near the corner of the eye.
You'll then be able to return to the comfort of your own home within a few hours. A few days later, an office visit will be scheduled to remove the stitches.
