Childbirth Education Classes and Maternity Tours 


Birth Your Way

Cost: $50 per couple

This class prepares new families and their support person for the birth process. Classes are offered via Zoom or in person to fit all our families’ needs. This class is recommended for everyone, especially for those parents expecting their first baby or those desiring to know more about childbirth and beyond. These classes are ideal for those at least 32 weeks pregnant but are open for registration before that time.

A variety of topics are covered in this class, including:
· Breathing and relaxation techniques
· Massage and visualization
· Signs of labor
· Labor interventions
· Pain management
· Importance of bonding with baby
· Newborn care
· Feeding the baby
· Colic and infants
· Infant stimulation
· Breastfeeding
· Tour of the birthing and postpartum units

You will also need to pay for the $50 class by credit card online or over the phone. The class must be paid for by the first day of class before the session starts.

Unmedicated Birth: Tips and Tricks for the Parents to Be

Cost: Free to parents who attend our “Birth Your Way” class, otherwise, $35 for others.

This class is designed to add additional preparation and knowledge for the pregnant person and their support partner. It is ideal for persons desiring more information on pursuing the rigors of an unmedicated birth. The presentation of various tips and tricks and hands-on practice will assist you in navigating your desired childbirth experience. This in-person course is taught by Nebraska Medicine certified nurse-midwives. Completing another childbirth education class such as "Birth Your Way" or prior experience with another birth experience is recommended before this class, but not required.

Topics include:
· How to support your birthing partner in labor.
· Evidence on labor induction methods.
· When to call your provider.
· Strategies to cope during early and active labor.
· Hydrotherapy and waterbirth.
· And more!

Unmedicated Birth: Tips and Tricks for the Parents to Be


Tour the Nebraska Medicine Labor and Delivery Unit

Cost: Free

Take a tour of our modern and fully equipped labor and postpartum rooms. Touring the Nebraska Medicine Labor and Delivery Unit is a great way to become familiar with and ask questions regarding what to expect when it’s time to deliver your baby. During this tour, you will learn about our wireless monitoring, birthing options, waterbirth and hydrotherapy, available pain management options and meet members of our labor and delivery team.

Breastfeeding Support Classes

Cost: Free to parents who attend our “Birth Your Way” class; otherwise, $15 for others.
This class is intended for expecting and new parents who want to learn more about breastfeeding.  

Topics include:
•    Preparation
•    Getting positioned
•    The latch
•    How to know if baby is getting enough
•    Milk storage
•    Problem-solving tips

These sessions are prerecorded for viewing at your convenience. Feel free to sign up for any class. You'll receive an email with all the relevant links to videos and documents attached.

Convenient Class Location

Childbirth education classes are offered online via Zoom and in-person at the Olson Center for Women’s Health in the Durham Outpatient Center
 
In-person childbirth education classes are offered in two ways. You can sign up for two three-hour sessions during the week or for all-sessions. The all-day class is offered one Saturday a month. Zoom childbirth education classes are only offered as two three-hour sessions. 
 
Please remember to bring your labor book or breastfeeding book with you to class.
