New Direction leads mother of the groom to weight loss success
Meg Trewhitt bought a dress, but it wasn’t just any dress. It was the perfect dress.
It was January 2019, and the Palliative Care nurse practitioner was already on a weight-loss journey. She had found the perfect dress to wear at her son’s October wedding. Therefore, Trewhitt bought that perfect dress a size down.
However, there was a problem.
Yep, you probably guessed it. Some of the weight she had lost returned.
"What I was doing wasn’t working, and I remember seeing an article about the New Direction program and thought that looked interesting," says Trewhitt.
Trewhitt started New Direction in August, using the very low calorie diet (VLCD). The program also offers a low calorie diet (LCD).
"I really wanted to take a break from thinking about food and planning meals," she says. "Not thinking about it and just doing what I was instructed within the program was both the hardest and easiest part of it."
The work paid off. In the five months since joining New Direction, Trewhitt is within seven pounds of her goal to lose 60 pounds.
More importantly, she was able to wear that perfect dress at her son’s wedding.
Trewhitt credits the New Direction team for helping and supporting her weight-loss journey.
"I’ve lost weight before and gained it back due to being lax and reverting to bad habits," she says. "The New Direction team does a great job of holding you accountable and provides ongoing and good tips and tricks."
The New Direction program recently received the Matson/Korte New Direction Outstanding Achievement Award for its performance and innovation. The Robard Corporation, the vendor the New Direction program uses to purchase meal replacements, gives the award.
"When I first came on board at Nebraska Medicine and learned about this award, it has been a goal of mine for us to achieve and I am thrilled we finally won," says Lauren White, physician assistant, Bariatrics Center. "I have been fortunate to be part of an incredible team who continuously works very hard for our patients."
Trewhitt used funds from her health savings account (HSA) to pay for program expenses. She says if New Direction interests you, you should check it out.
"You’ll increase your self-esteem, energy level, lower blood pressure, improve your lab values and possibly reduce use of some medications," says Trewhitt. "You have nothing to lose and everything to gain."
