You asked, we answered: COVID-19 vaccine after dermal filler

Question:
Is it safe to get a COVID-19 vaccine after a dermal filler?
Answer from plastic surgeon Perry Johnson, MD:
Currently, we recommend waiting to get a dermal filler until two weeks after the COVID-19 vaccine or booster. Similarly, avoid getting a dermal filler for two weeks before vaccination.
Three people with fillers experienced swelling and inflammation shortly after vaccination during the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials. None were life-threatening or caused long-term complications. After treatment, the reactions resolved quickly.
Short-term swelling of your lymph nodes after vaccination can also happen. See your primary care provider if you have any questions or concerns.
