Nebraska Medicine and UNMC team up with Husker Athletics
Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center will serve as the official health care partners of Husker Athletics. The partnership strengthens an existing relationship between Husker athletes and their medical team. Medical center experts will continue providing medical oversight to all Husker athletes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The new partnership will better connect the medical center with fans with the goal of improving the health of all Nebraskans.
“Nebraska Medicine is well known for providing world-class health care to patients from around the state and across the world,” said James Linder, MD, CEO and chair of the Nebraska Medicine Board of Directors. “Husker Athletics has a storied history and tradition that makes this an ideal partnership. Few things bring Nebraskans together like sports, and we look forward to bringing together the two most recognized brands in our state to carry our health and wellness expertise to Husker fans everywhere.”
“UNMC has a long history of collaborating with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, specifically in teaching and research, and we look forward to extending that partnership to Husker Athletics,” said Dele Davies, MD, interim chancellor of UNMC. “We’re most excited about the opportunity to work with the teams and their fans and to offer expertise in clinical care, research and education to help Nebraskans live stronger, longer lives."
The partnership will allow fans to learn more about the health care, research and education happening in Nebraska and how they can benefit directly from the expertise of their fellow Nebraskans at the medical center who work across the state. It also will engage Nebraskans with information about the growing job opportunities in health care and the impact the medical center has in growing the state’s economy. Funding of the partnership will not use state funds and will be renewable after three years.
For years, medical center emergency medicine physicians, residents and nurses have staffed aid stations throughout Memorial Stadium, supporting fans with quick responses when needed, allowing local EMS responders to focus on broader public safety concerns on game day.
“Husker Athletics is thrilled to expand our great partnership with UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, partners that provide world-class health care and lead groundbreaking research to improve the lives of Nebraska residents and the global community, said Husker Athletic Director Troy Dannen. “Husker Athletics prides itself on providing exceptional service to our student athletes in every facet of their development, and the enhancement of our partnership with UNMC and Nebraska Medicine reinforces our commitment to an unmatched student-athlete experience.”
